Today is a fused participle. Every day is a fused participle. It can never decide if it’s right or not.

Today is elation, that I was able to read this and there was no mention of diagramming a sentence. I was so bad at that I still lock up at the mere thought... it's the stuff of nightmares. Not sure why. Maybe it's because I failed the class and had to attend summer school? And all the mental associations with being someone that is so incapable of grasping basic principles that they can't understand their native language? Good times. But really? How am I supposed to know when a phrase begins or ends? The fact that it was often up for debate made me really, really suspicious about the whole thing. Thank you for sticking to the basics. (I am into anthimeria though, I guess that's my language kink. I like transformation. And yes I did need to look that word up.)

the only constant here is "day" itself. Why give day such high status? What about minutes or hours? Do we sum things up day by day?

It was an arbitrary choice. Go ahead and use any metric you want!
