Whether about a mother or a self or both, this is a rich mix of loss and love. A famous Jewish thinker Gershom Scholem wrote : "The story is not over. It has not become history. And the secret life it holds may break out any time in you or in me."

"If you are like me you have people with unfinished plots, that were never yours to write even if you thought they were. Even if you hoped they were." Love this. Makes me feel so much better about the half-written third novel I've pseudo abandoned (the characters keep dwelling in my head, but no longer reach my hands). Here's to our flimsy selves and the children who leave us, even if those children are ourselves. xo
